October Open Mic Night at G|A|S
After the success of the first one in July, we were already looking to this event. But this time it was even more special because some of the people we work with were taking centre stage.
First there was Mark who belted out ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining’, followed by James’s enthusiastic rendition of ‘Black Or White’, supported by Marc and Rob. These guys regularly attend our inclusive club night – Involve – and they held nothing back. We are so proud of their confidence and for being able to provide an opportunity for them to perform live, alongside other talented musicians. It gave us an opportunity to practice what we preach – creating an inclusive and accessible music scene.
This was followed by ‘Caged Arts’, our mixed ability band that we support to make original independent music. The gave an accomplished performance with original music and ‘Wish You Were Here’.
Thank you to everyone who performed: Isaac, Trudy, John, Zef, Laura, Amira and Emily. It was great to see some people stepping up to the mic for the first time, alongside some seasoned professionals with a wide range of music being played.
The night has raised almost £1,500 which will help us to continue to support people with learning disabilities and people with dementia to grow and find joy through music.
Thank you to GAS co-working space and the fabulous Trudy & Greg for hosting, our compere, Rob The Leigh Whisperer, and to 1942 Street Food, Hotdrop and Leigh on Sea brewery for keeping everyone fed and watered.
Thank you also to all the wonderful businesses in Leigh on Sea who provided raffle prizes: Alchemy, Chef Zoe McReynolds, The Remedy Store, Jabber Studio, Classic Cakes made Vegan, Emily Jellet, Frey Coffee Shop, Lisa Serenty, TW Supplies, Gabs, Marmalade Coffee Shop, MK Aesthetic, Nutra Lei, Samantha Lily Skincare, The Chill Chair, The Refill Room, Tinko, Yoga Factory & Prana House.
And thank you to everyone who came, donated or bought a raffle ticket. Together we can make musical expression accessible to everyone.
